County workers threaten one-day strike on march 5

County workers say they're prepared for a one-day strike on March 5 if the county doesn't make them a better offer in ongoing contract negotiations.

"Our county is in crisis," said Alicia Aleman, Kern Chapter president of Service Employees International Union Local 521, which represents 5,204 county employees across a range of departments.

"Staffing is dangerously low, wages are uncompetitive and caseloads are unmanageable and we can't do the best job we can as public workers," Aleman said.
